Swansea City are on the verge of breaking their club-record as they are close to signing Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish forward scored 18 times in La Liga last season, having spent the season on loan at Eibar and is expected to cost the South Wales club around £15m. Baston started his playing career in the youth set-up with Atletico, but having spent every season out on loan since 2010, the 23-year-old, has only made one senior appearance for the side.
Swansea’s previous club-record fee was the £12m they paid Vitesse Arnhem for Wilfried Bony in 2013. City are looking to bolster their striking options ahead of the new season, which starts in just five days.
Guidolin happy with his squad
“I think it (Borja signing) is close, I think it is imminent. I was happy with the squad before but I am more happy now because with Fernando Llorente and Borja Baston I think we have signed two good players, two very important players,” said Guidolin.
Manager, Francesco Guidolin has already brought in World Cup winner Fernando Llorente from Sevilla, but Bafétimbi Gomis has left on a season long loan to Marseille, whilst Andre Ayew is set to complete his move to West Ham United.
The Swans travel to newly promoted on Saturday afternoon hoping to get off to a similar start to last season where they earned a 2-0 home win over Newcastle United.
