Second Chance? Can Moyes turn it around in Spain

David Moyes has been appointed the new manager of La Liga club Real Sociedad after finally agreeing talks over the weekend.

The former Manchester United manager has signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2016 and returns to football since leaving his post at Old Trafford in April. The Scot had been considered for some time now and he finally put pen to paper, hoping for a better start then he did during his spell in Manchester.

According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Moyes had been considering the offer for several time and was pushed for an answer as the Spanish club had Pepe Mel waiting on standby.

Balague said after his appointment: “I’m so excited about this. He is one of the top British managers and he’s actually going to go to La Liga, to a team he can improve.

“The interesting thing is Real Sociedad have not accepted no for an answer, it is not a decision that has been taken lightly at all.”

His new team sit fifth from bottom in La Liga following a poor start to the new season, but the former United boss has the experience to change things around at the ‘San Sebastian’. However, the Spanish club suprised many over the weekend after winning 2-1 to defending champions Atletico Madrid, just what Moyes would have wanted to see. If you recall, Sociedad featured in United’s group last season in the Champions League, so will already be familiar with the style of play that they play.

David Moyes takes over from Jagoba Arrasate at the club who have previous when it comes to British managers. Chris Coleman and John Toshack have also had spells at the same club.

Balague went on to say: “It’s a club with some Britishness about it. The area is also ‘British’ in the eyes of the rest of Spain – it rains a lot!”

After the International break, Moyes will face his first task at his new club with a trip to Deportivo.
